Mortella Tower, Corsica
This is a picture of one of the original coastal fortifications that gave rise to the whole idea of the Martello Towers in Great Britain and elsewhere. This was the type of tower that stood off two British warships and generated the letter to the Prime Minister, which resulted in a new design, a name alteration and ultimately, the coastal defense of southeastern coast of England
